Room Parent Responsibilities & Guidelines
Being a Room Parent is a very rewarding experience, and it will give you a very special connection with your child’s classroom, as well as Little Flower School.
A Room Parent’s basic responsibility is to help out in the classroom, as determined by the classroom teacher. Please check with your teacher early in the year to find out what he or she sees as your role.
Basic Responsibilities
· Be responsible for classroom parties (refreshments, helping set up, serve and clean up) – The usual holiday parties include Christmas, Valentine’s Day and year end activities
· Assist with field trip(s), special projects or events as requested/needed by the teacher
· Organize/purchase teacher and teacher’s aide birthday gifts from fund collected at the beginning of the year (keep all receipts)
· Plan, help set up, serve and clean up for TAG luncheons for teachers (in conjunction with other designated class rooms)
· Coordinate classroom art project for Fall Auction
· Organize class specific events (see attached list)
· Serve as liaison between classroom and parents – recruit volunteers/assistance for LFS events
· Serve as a member of the Parent Teacher Club (PTC) and attend meetings
Some helpful hints to assist you in being an effective Room Parent:
· Meet with your teacher and the other room parent(s) to establish a working relationship and understanding of expectations
· Create and share a Class Directory containing the names and contact information (phone numbers/e-mail addresses) for all parents/guardians of the children in your class. This will be helpful in sharing information and asking for help.
· Have FUN...these years with our children fly by all too quickly!
